With the temperatures slated to hit in the mid 90’s this week in Michigan, I thought it would be the perfect time to share some tips & tricks I’ve learned over the past few years when it comes to summer weddings with scorching temperatures! Battling a hot summer wedding day can be tough, but these tips can help keep the day cooler and more comfortable!
-Drink Water (and then drink some more)
Staying hydrated is key on a scorching wedding day! The last thing you want is to be saying your vows and then hitting the ground from dehydration. Remember, alcohol also makes you dehydrated, so if you’re enjoying some cocktails, remember to slip some water in between those too!
-Run Your Makeup Trial Through The Ringer
If you know you’re getting married when it’s most likely going to be hot, choosing the right makeup products is SO important. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a brides makeup melt right off as soon as she steps outside. If you have oily skin, start testing some oil-controlling products a few months in advance (never try out anything new right before your wedding in case of a bad reaction). When you go in for your makeup trial, ask to use those products so you can see exactly how they work on your skin. Afterward, spend some time outside or do a short workout to see how the makeup reacts.
-Bring Along a Touch-Up Kit
To go along with that, have a bridesmaid bring along a touch-up kit filled with some necessities. Face blotting sheets, bobby pins, powder, lipstick, and deodorant. Take 5 minutes before entering your reception to freshen up, I promise it’ll make you feel so much better.
-Sunscreen!
I’ve seen this get overlooked so many times! If you’re having an outdoor ceremony and you easily burn, don’t forget to put on some sunscreen! Also, if your ceremony is outside with very little shade, keep your guests (particularly older guests) in mind. Guests will usually show up early and could easily be sitting outside in the hot sun for quite some time. Having a small basket with some sunscreen and fans, along with a cooler of waters will keep your guests happy and enjoying the day.
-Hairstyles
This goes for the bride & bridesmaids. If you have the suspicion that it’s going to be hot on the big day, you might be better off having an up-do hairstyle that keeps your hair off of your neck. While hair down styles can be so classic and beautiful, there’s nothing worse than watching those curls fall right out after being outside for a short while.
-For the Guys
If you’re planning a summer wedding, do some research on what would be best for the gentleman to wear. Maybe you’re having a beach wedding and a linen type outfit would be best, maybe you’re okay with the guys not wearing suit jackets, making it a little cooler for them with less layers. Finding the right outfit for the guys can keep them much more comfortable throughout the day!
-Florals
After planning each and every stem of your floral arrangements and bouquets, the last thing you want is for them to immediately get wilted. Keeping your bouquets in water for as long as possible and then putting them back into water throughout the day will help them from going droopy. If you’re having outdoor floral arrangements, make sure that they aren’t getting put out too early causing them to scorch in the sun.
-The Cake
Same goes for your cake! Keep your cake in the refrigerator for as long as possible! Cakes can tend to melt SO fast and you don’t want your cake toppling over before it even gets to cake cutting time!
All in all, summer weddings can bring so much beauty to your day, but these tips can help make it more enjoyable for you and your guests. If you have any other tips you’d like to share, comment below!
