maternity and baby
My approach to all areas of photography is one of natural, candid and simple moments. My approach to newborn photography is the same, and differs greatly than the traditional newborn session. The best way to describe it is to think of the session as a "hybrid." Part of the session will be classic posed images of baby, and the other will be a more natural, organic lifestyle approach that captures the authentic connections and real moments between baby, parents and siblings. Posed images of baby will follow a "baby-led" style which means I will follow the cues from baby and not try to put them into intricate or unnatural poses. Simple props, backdrops, fabrics, and accessories are all available for use at the studio so there's no need to bring in any items of your own, unless you have a very sentimental or family heirloom you'd like included. I know this is a different approach to traditional newborn photography, but I promise the magic in the image comes from the real emotion that's happening between you and your baby and that is what I want to capture for you.
Maternity sessions are typically taken outdoors on-location, but can be taken inside the studio if you prefer or if it's winter. Welcome baby sessions are available to those who are delivering in the Central Michigan Area and will take place in the hospital, typically the day after baby is born. Newborn sessions are taken inside my Downtown Mt. Pleasant Studio on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday afternoons. Weekend availability in the summer/fall months is typically rare, but the winter months may have more options. Hair and makeup services by a talented Level 7 Salon artist can be added to maternity and newborn sessions and can take place at the vanity station in my studio.
